Burbank USD – Monterey Continuation High School

Burbank, California
The Monterey Continuation High School houses 3 classrooms, 7 private counseling/staff offices, a group room, a staff workroom and full restroom facilities. The project exterior consists of 2-tone stucco with overhangs providing shelter at the exterior walkways. The interior spaces all feature abundant natural daylight from view windows and/or tubular skylights. The roof top mechanical equipment is fully concealed by decorative metal screening. Providing a high performance learning environment and achieving a LEED Silver rating was a fundamental goal for the project, to that end Silver Creek developed a number of high performance and cost-effective strategies. A single ply “cool roof” was combined with increased thermal insulation throughout the building to provide a highly efficient building envelope. Thermally broken aluminum windows with high performance glazing were provided in almost every regularly occupied space to provide natural daylighting and exterior views.
